A big subject: photo’s of land, sea, and sky subjects include grand vistas, colorful sunsets to views involving water, either still or in motion. Of the images displayed on this page, seven are from digital capture. All the others are film images captured on Kodachrome 64, and scanned and saved as Photoshop files. The scanner settings result in pixel dimensions of about 24 to 27 MP. New technology in service to old!
The monochrome images derive from the color scans in Photoshop elements. One my favorite edits is to increase the contrast to produce the effect of a red no. 25 filter. In the opposite case, using a low-contrast conversion produces a peaceful effect. Both approaches are present in images on this page.
Prime lenses, including 24, 50 and 135 mm focal lengths produce the results you see here. Using a prime lens requires the photographer to move and search for the best composition. Sometimes, the one-third rule works to give a good result; sometimes breaking the rules is a better plan when shooting landscapes. One device is to frame so the image pulls the viewer’s eyes through the image. In other cases, the colors provide the story.
