The natural world involves both object and event subjects. One of the most challenging is the event. The photographer has to be in the right location at the right time to make a captivating image. Birds present the additional challenge of speed which can make tracking and focus difficult; digital cameras facilitate the photographer’s task in this area. Imaging birds at rest is one way to overcome the challenge of speed. The hummingbirds and tern are not at rest, but rather are hovering, providing a good opportunity for image capture. In contrast, imaging lightning requires a tripod and time exposures (there are other ways as well) to capture images.
